A
group of talented artists is drawing on inspiration from breast cancer
survivors across
South Australia
to create a series of colourful paintings as part of the Think Pink
Exhibition at Lobethal’s Gallery at the Mill.
Emerging and established artists are busily preparing their creations in
shades of pink for the exhibition from October 5 to 28, 2007.
Gallery
at the Mill Director, Pene Willoughby, said the idea was the result of a
touching conversation held with co-workers and friends about how breast
cancer has affected their lives.
“My
mother suffered breast cancer and once we got talking, each and every
person had been touched by it and knew someone who had experienced the
condition,” Mrs Willoughby said.
“We
wanted to give back and make our contribution in a creative way and the
Think Pink Exhibition was the perfect solution.
“Everyone
is incredibly excited to be involved and it really will be a colourful
spectacle. There will also be a range of pink products including giftware
and blankets on display during the exhibition for visitors to view and
purchase.
“The
local community is really coming together to ensure the exhibition is a
success.
Mrs
Willoughby said the group had chosen the McGrath Foundation as its charity
and plans to give the organisation full proceeds following the event.
Participating
artist, 17-year-old, Emma Harris, said painting had taken on a whole new
meaning.
“I
have always enjoyed art and painting but preparing for this exhibition
feels especially rewarding because we will be helping such a significant
cause during Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” Emma said.
The
Think Pink Exhibition will be officially opened with a special event on
Sunday, October 7 from 2pm at Gallery at the Mill. Everyone is welcome to
attend but must call (08) 8389 5615 to receive an official invitation with
RSVP instructions.
Located
at the Old Woollen Mill in Lobethal, Gallery at the Mill is open from
Friday to Sunday and Public Holidays from 10am to 4pm.
